Health Certificate Visits

Going somewhere?

If you’re planning a trip to another state or country and taking your furry friend along, you’ll need a Health Certificate! Your veterinarian must complete these certificates, which confirm that your pet is healthy enough to travel and meets all the requirements for entry at your destination. Depending on where you’re headed, the process can be a little complex—but don’t worry—we have ample experience and are ready to help you (and your pet) get where you want to go!

Interstate Health Certificates

If you’re traveling between US states with your pet, the requirements will vary depending on what state you’re traveling to and how you’re getting there. Some states only require a health certificate if you’re flying, and others need them no matter what. Each state has different requirements; some (Hawaii, for example) are more involved than others.

The USDA Interstate Pet Travel website is an excellent place to start your research on each state’s individual requirements. If you’re flying, you should also contact the airline you’re using to learn about its regulations regarding pet travel.

International Health Certificates

If you’re headed to another country with your pet, the requirements vary drastically depending on your destination. Some countries require a relatively small amount of preparation, while others have extremely complex requirements and can take several months to complete. If you’re traveling internationally with your pet, determining your destination’s requirements well ahead of your planned departure is crucial.

To start the process, consult the USDA International Pet Travel website for more information on the requirements of your destination country.

In addition to the state or country’s requirements, each airline has its own stipulations for traveling with animals, and it’s essential to investigate these well ahead of time so that you have enough time to prepare. In many cases, the health certificate must be completed within a specific time frame before the travel date, so planning ahead is essential!
